How can I add links to folders, files, network shares and pin them in RetroUI Pro?

RetroUI Pro enumerates the programs directories and concatenates these two directories into a single view. This is exactly the same thing that Microsoft does in Windows 7.

What this means is that if you create .lnk files and place the .lnk files in either the all users Start menu directory or the current users Start menu directory, that you will be able to see, use and pin .lnk files to your favorites. Using this method you can create links to anything that the OS supports including but not limited to:

  • Files
  • Folders
  • Network locations
  • Websites

How to create a .lnk file:

  • Right click on your desktop
  • Select new Shortcut
  • Follow the steps in the Wizard
  • After the shortcut is created, click the link on your desktop to test it.

Allow this .lnk to be used within RetroUI Pro (in the Start Menu and within TabletView) for ALL users of this PC:

  • Open an Explorer window to the all users start menu folder. You can do this by selecting Run from the Start menu and typing: %programdata%\microsoft\windows\start menu\programs\

  • After this window opens, you can copy the shortcut you created on your desktop, to this folder.

Allow this .lnk to be used within RetroUI Pro (in the Start Menu and within TabletView) for only the current user:

  • Open an Explorer window to the all users start menu folder. You can do this by selecting Run from the Start menu and typing: %AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\

  • After this window opens, you can copy the shortcut you created on your desktop, to this folder.

Pinning your newly created shortcut in the RetroUI Pro Start Menu:

  • Open the RetroUI Pro Start menu
  • Select All programs
  • Right click the shortcut which you just created and select: 'Pin to Start menu'
  • Your pinned item now appears at the top of the Start menu list of pinned favorites.
  • (Optional) You can now right click, and select: 'Enable Edit Mode', to arrange your favorites.
